About
A raid with a taste of the Far North... This trip is reserved for sporty hikers with snowshoeing experience who are ready to face uncertain winter conditions. So... ready for adventure?
In the heart of the Hauts Plateaux du Vercors Nature Reserve, we'll be hiking with snowshoes and a towed pulka. This mode of transport and carrying allows us to spend four days in total immersion in this highly preserved massif. We'll discover the most secret spots on this vast plateau between the Alps and Provence.
Day 1: Die
Welcome at Die station at 4pm. Check into hotel, prepare special equipment and check personal belongings.
Overnight at hotel.
D2: Die - Plateau de Beure - Pré Peyret or Pison hut
Transfer to the Plateau de Beure. This first day enables us to familiarize ourselves with the pulka and specific equipment. We soon enter the Vercors High Plateaux Nature Reserve. The panoramic views over this entirely protected area are fantastic, allowing us to see a large part of our itinerary. We make our way to the Pré Peyret or Pison huts. We arrive early enough to discover some of the most emblematic sites in the Southern Vercors.
Overnight in a non-private hut (depending on the number of visitors, we may have to sleep in a tent or continue on to find a free hut).
Walking time: 4h D+: 250m ; D-: 200m
D3: Cabane de Pré Peyret or du Pison - Bergerie de Chaumailloux
We continue our raid through the Hauts Plateaux du Vercors Nature Reserve. We head for the eastern edge of the Vercors to reach the Bergerie de Chaumailloux and take full advantage of the best views of Mont-Aiguille.
Overnight in an unguarded refuge.
Walking time: 4h D+: 250m ; D-: 200m
D4: Bergerie de Chaumailloux - Tête Chevalière (1951 m) - Bergerie de Chaumailloux
We take advantage of the comfort of the Bergerie de Chaumailloux to stay an extra night and do a loop hike without the pulkas. The ridges of Tête Chevalière offer us exceptional panoramic views of the Vercors and Trièves, a perfect opportunity to discover this summit and the valleys that flow from it.
Overnight in an unguarded refuge.
Walking time: 5h30 D+: 550m ; D-: 550m
D5: Bergerie de Chaumailloux - Cabane de Tussac
We leave Chaumailloux, a site strongly marked by the resistance on the Vercors, to reach the southern end of the plateau where a few Bearded Vultures have recently been introduced. We pass the Jardin du Roy and then, skirting the cliffs of the Cirque d'Archiane, arrive at the Tussac sheepfolds.
Overnight in a private hut.
Walking time: 5h30 D+: 150m ; D-: 250m
D6: Cabane de Tussac - Vallon de Combeau
A new departure into the vastness of the high plateaux. Depending on weather conditions, we climb either to the Croix du Lautaret or to the summit of Montagnette, overlooking the Combeau valley. We take the Pas de la Coche down to this wonderful valley, where we finish our trek. Pick-up at Die station at 5pm.
Walking time: 6h D+: 350 m ; D-: 700 m
This pulka trek is totally dependent on snow conditions. If conditions are poor at the time of departure, we may have to modify the itinerary, postpone it to a later date or cancel it. In the latter case, we can also offer you a similar raid in another mountain range. In the event of unfavorable conditions, we will keep you informed in good time, and you will receive a full refund in the event of cancellation on our part.
